Code of Conduct

As a club, we acknowledge that we shall use our best endeavours to conduct ourselves at all levels and at all times in a disciplined manner, observing fair play according to the Laws of the game and a sporting spirit. To maintain the ethos of the game this shall include but not be limited by the following :

  • A fair and equitable treatment for all our rugby members which shall extend to all members of our opponents clubs
  • A fostering of excellence in our style of play , club relationships and integration into the local community .
  • To arrange to play both home and away fixtures in equivalent proportions .
  • By honouring all our fixtures ,which may entail using our good relations with neighbouring clubs to arrange the pooling of players without enticement to leave their existing clubs .
  • To be equable in our arrangements with the clubs contributing to the pool , by providing players to and utilising players from the pool in equal proportion .
  • In the eventuality of not being able to raise a full side even with the pooled players , to communicate with our opponents in good time and agree to play the game by sharing the available players .
  • By ensuring that all our club members and associated spectators respect the roles of the officials the officials appointed to the game .To be intolerant of any abuse or physical harm to the officials or their property . To extend to them a welcome to our club and an encouragement to be involved in the after match companionship in our game .
  • To set an example to young players by refraining from dissent of decisions by the game officials and the use of language of a profane or expletive nature.
  • To communicate with the Member clubs and the Management Committees of the Union in a prompt and efficient manner to ensure the effective and timely management of the organisation of Rugby Football within the Sussex Union

Coach Development Plan

With the near retirement of the present coach we need to put a plan in place to ensure that Holbrook retains a coaching presence .

  • Put present players who wish to on a level one coaching course
  • Ensure we have enough coaches to maintain the guideline coach /player ratios.
  • Written code of conduct for coaches
  • Create a Coach job description
  • Create a co-ordinated coaching approach for oncoming season
  • 6. Use ‘cluster group’  and Sussex RFU resource to ensure coaches are kept ‘up to date’  on latest techniques and possible coaching ‘masterclasses’

Coach Job Specification

1. Purpose of the Job

  • To coach the players and teams representing Holbrook RFC

2. Accountable to

  • Holbrook Club general Committee
  • Holbrook RFC President

3. Dimensions

  • Coaching for current roster of  players of all abilities and ages.
  • Provide coaching and Team tactics for all Holbrook RFC teams
  • Ensure adequate quality and quantities of training equipment   

4. Knowledge, Skills, Experienced Required

  • Level 1 Coaching course from an approved source
  • CRB approval

5.Principal Accountabilties

  • Provide continual improvement of core skills for all players
  • Provide guidance  to manage a minimum level of fitness for 1st XV players
  • Provide a basis for the continual improvement of 1st XV standard
  • Provide a brief summary of previous seasons progress at AGM
  • Provide a brief outline of next seasons plan at AGM
  • Make decisions along with 1st XV captain on team selection.
  • Advise Captains on players suitability for certain fixtures and positions.

Dealing With Incident

  • Stay calm but act swiftly and observe the situation. Is there danger of further injuries?
  • Listen to what the injured person is saying.
  • Alert the first aider who should take appropriate action for minor injuries.
  • In the event of an injury requiring specialist treatment, call the emergency services.
  • In the event of an ambulance being called send a responsible person to the car park to meet the ambulance and guide it to the injured person.
  • In group situations - Deal with the rest of the group and ensure that they are adequately supervised.
  • Do not move someone with major injuries. Wait for the emergency medics.
  • Contact the injured person’s parent/carer/spouse. Junior team managers have contact lists for their players. Senior members contact list is behind the bar.
  • Complete an incident/accident report form from the file in the club office.
  • If a player receives a head injury and any recognised first aider suspects concussion, the injured player may not play or train for the next 24 hours and should remain under observation.  If concussion is confirmed the player must refrain from playing for 3 weeks.

Volunteer Recruitment Policy

Holbrook RFC will look to ensure sufficient volunteers are available for the general tasks of the rugby club and any Holbrook Club functions where the rugby section needs to contribute .

  • Voluteers may be designated by the 1st XV captain for duties week by week .
  • Hon Sec will ask for volunteers for Holbrook club duties when needed as dictated by the club General Committee.
  • President will ask for volunteers when needed by Sussex RFC .
  • Notices put in Holbrook Club and changing rooms for special events needing volunteers .
  • Election of volunteers officers is done at each AGM for the forth coming year .
